As the end of the season approaches....

As the end of the season approaches I personally would like to firstly thank all the girls for supporting the ESGGA by playing in the competitions and for representing the East Girls in the matches against the West and the South Girls. It has been a great year and both Maggie and I look forward to seeing you all next year.

Secondly , a big thank you to all the parents for supporting the girls .

Here's just a wee story to emphasise what parents have to do , or go through to allow the girls to play the game of golf !!!

An ESGGA Mum who probably would like to remain unnamed took her children who are all golfers to their prizegiving. On their way home the family took a short cut across the golf course , in the dark . The Mum unfortunately found a bunker to fall into. The family had a chuckle to themselves and upon reaching home asked the question
' Mum , did you remember to rake the bunker ?'

So to all the Mums & Dads who make lots of scarifices for their children - A Very Big Thankyou !

Girls - Keep up the practice in the winter.

See you next year.

Thank you Maggie !
Well done also to Gillian Simpson who was a close runner up with 51 points.

Nicola Taylor from Thornton was also presented yesterday with a voucher for having the best aggregate two nett scores from the ESGGA Spring, Summer and Autumn Meetings. Well done Nicky.

Rachael Watton of Mortonhall, won the East Girls' Championship today beating Gabrielle Macdonald of Craigielaw in the Final by 4&3. To reach the final Rachael beat Nicola Taylor of Thornton by 2 holes and Gabrielle beat Gillian Simpson of Murrayfield on the 19th hole. The conditions the girls had to play in all day could not have been any worse. It never stopped raining all day.

With thanks to Maggie here is a match report of the final.

' The standard of golf was excellent throughout the final in spite of heavy rain and very wet conditions underfoot.
Gabrielle won the first but Rachael got back on level terms with a birdie at the 2nd. Rachael edged ahead by winning holes 4&5 but Gabrielle had a birdie at the 8th to reduce the deficit to one. Rachael was 1 up at the turn.
Rachael won the 10th with a birdie 3 and then went 3 up at the short 11th . The next two holes were halved. Gabrielle lost the 14th after trouble off the tee which meant a penalty shot and she eventually conceded the hole for Rachael to go 4 up.
At the par 3 15th both girls had excellent tee shots over the burn to the green. Rachael secured her par however Gabrielle just missed a birdie 2 for the match to continue.
Well done to both girls for playing such good golf. Rachael is a worthy champion.

We would like to thank Craigmillar Park Golf Club for the courtesy of the course for our Championship this year. We are grateful for all the help we received in rearranging the matches which had to be postponed earlier in the month.

Well done to all the girls who played in this year's championship and thanks to all the parents and supporters who watched today in such unpleasant conditions.

Weather delayed Championship !

With thanks to the good old Scottish summer weather the East Girls's Championship was abandoned due to thick fog/mist. The Summer Meeting had been delayed for four hours and as a result only 8 holes of the first match play rounds were played. The girls arrived the following morning only to find the course unplayable . It was agreed by everyone that the girls would complete their first round ties in their own time and a new date would be set for the semi-finals and final.
