East District retain SLGA Girls' Inter Divisional Championship Trophy

SLGA Inter Divisional Champions 2012

Front Row from left to right Catherine, Charlotte & Mandy
Missing from photo is Maggie.

Congratulations to the East District team of Jessica and Emily Dalgetty (Glencorse),Catherine Goodwin (Glenbervie), Charlotte Munro (Gullane), Hannah Scott (Broomieknowe),and Alexandra Tait (St Regulus) for retaining the SLGA Girls' Inter Divisional Championship Trophy over the weekend at Ballumbie Castle Golf Club,  Dundee.

On Saturday morning they played steady golf to beat the North District team by 2 games to 1. However, the afternoon match against the South Team was more of a battle. Determined to win, the second pairing of Jessica and Catherine pulled out a birdie on the last hole to win by 1 hole and in the final pairing of Alexandra and Charlotte, Alexandra played the shot of the day, pin high, onto a two tiered 18th green, to allow Charlotte to hit a great putt to secure them of a 1 hole victory.

Going into Sunday and the final day of play, East District team found themselves up against the West Team who also had won both their matches on the first day. So it was all to play for between the two teams.
Jessica and Catherine after playing so well on the first day lost their match by 7&5. However, it was not long until East District got a win from Alexandra and Charlotte winning by 6&4. So now the match was all square, both teams having won a game. Hannah and Emily having been well down managed to pull it back to all square at the 16th. The 17th was then halved after a fantastic bunker shot and putt from Emily.  Hannah then hit a great drive down the 18th allowing Emily to play a match winning shot six feet from the pin which was the followed by a birdie putt from Hannah to give them the game and secure the match against the West and also to take the championship.

Well done girls !

Unfortunately on Saturday evening Maggie took unwell so unfortunately missed all the exciting play on Sunday. We do wish her well and thank her for all her support and hard work to the run up to the competition.

East of Scotland Championship 2011

East of Scotland Girls' Champion 2011 - Kate McIntosh

Finalists Gabrielle and Kate

Match Report
It was always going to be a close match – the 1st was halved in par and the 2nd in birdies! Kate went 1 up with a birdie 3 at the third. Gabrielle squared the match at the 5th. A birdie 3 at the 8th put Kate 1 up. The 9th was halved in birdie 3s and another birdie for Kate at the 10th put her 2 up. Gabrielle won the par 5, 12th with an excellent birdie, then squared the match at the short 13th. Having put her drive in the left rough near the trees, Kate played a great recovery shot to the back of the green and secured a par to win the hole. With Kate 1 up, Gabrielle’s approach to the 17th was slightly big leaving her a tricky shot back. Kate won the hole and the match 2 & 1.

Congratulations to both Gabrielle and Kate on their excellent golf in a most enjoyable final, played in the best of spirits – it was a pleasure to watch.

Footnote: At the 4th hole, Kate’s drive went zooming up the fairway followed by her driver head which veered to the left into long grass. Luckily it was found and will hopefully be fixed by next week for the Scottish Girls’ Championship.

Thank you to all the girls who played in the Summer Meeting and Championship. Thank you also to all who supported and watched the girls over the two days at Kirkcaldy.

SLGA Scottish Girls

Maggie and I would just like to wish all the East Girls who are playing in the Girls Scottish at Eyemouth next week all the very best. Play well and enjoy !

Championship match report

With thanks to Maggie here is a full match report of the championship final !

Rachel went up in the match with a birdie at the 2nd and then won the 3rd and 6th. Alison fought back by winning the seventh and then holed a great putt for a birdie 2 at the challenging short hole 8th where Rachel just lipped out for her birdie. After an excellent approach shot, Alison squared the match at the 9th.

After Rachel winning the 10th, Alison again squared the match with a birdie 4 at the 11th. Rachel again edged ahead and although her first putt at the 14th went 8ft past the hole, she holed the return to go 2 up. At the long 15th Rachel holed from just off the green for an eagle 3 which gave her a three-hole lead. Alison won the 16th to take the match to the 17th, which was halved in 3 to give Rachel a 2/1 win and the championship title.

Congratulations to both girls on an exciting final, played in the best of spirits, it was a pleasure to watch.

Thank you to all who supported and watched the girls over the two days at Haddington. It is most encouraging to see so much talent in the East of Scotland Girls.

Rachel Hanlon, East Girls Champion 2010

Congratulations to Rachel Hanlon from St Regulus in Fife who successfully defended her East Girls Champion title by beating Alison Goodwin of Glenbervie by 2&1 in a very closely contested final at Haddington Golf Club. Champion Rachel with runner-up Alison and the two beaten semi-finalists Gillian Simpson and Kate McIntosh

The first of the semi-final matches saw Alison beating Gillian Simpson (Murrayfield) by 3&2. In the other semi, Rachel and Kate McIntosh (Broomieknowe) had a very good battle which ended on the 18th where Kate missed a short putt giving Rachel a place in the final.

Our sincere thanks go to Haddington Golf Club for kindly allowing us courtesy of course to play both the Summer Meeting and Championship and for their very kind hospitality in the Clubhouse. We would also like to thank Dawn Young for her kind help as starter for the Summer Meeting

East Division Girls come so close to winning at Ballumbie again !

From left to right, Lauren Whyte, Alexis Hutton,Tiffiny Wood, Nicola Taylor, Shannen McGuire and our brilliant Captain Alison Goodwin

After a very tense and exciting finish to the SLGA Girls Inter-Divisional matches at Ballumbie Castle, Dundee, the West and North District teams were level with two wins apiece. The tie-breaker was the number of holes up in individual games played throughout the competition.
Congratulations to the West team who came out top with (+20) against the North on (+9).

Well done to all the East girls who put up a tremendous fight right to the end. It really did come down to the last hole played on the 18th in the last match. Nicola Taylor and Alexis Hutton were all square against their North opponents , however Alexis's drive unluckily found an old divot just lying into the second cut of rough and unfortunately they lost the hole to give the North a win against us.

Just a note but, if you count up the number of holes up, won by the East team from the full results below you will see it adds up to (+23 ) , so overall they played some great golf . Well done girls !

We must say thanks to Tiffiny who stood in at the last moment as reserve. Well done Tiffiny you played some great golf. Sam,we hope your back is OK !

I would just like to take the chance on behalf of the East Girls to thank Liz Jones (Fife) for very kindly helping and supporting us throughout the weekend.
